JLBFraudBookCover6x9_BW_MEDIUMAbout FRAUD

From USA Today Bestselling author J.L. Berg comes a sexy standalone about love, lies and every dirty little thing in between.

It wasn’t just a job.

It was my way back to the top.

After losing my position as a journalist for one of the biggest news publications in the world, I knew I’d do anything to get it back.

Even if it meant breaking a few hearts to get there.

She was the hottest author in the country.

Known only by a pen name, there wasn’t a person alive who wasn’t dying to discover her true identity.

And I’d figured it out.

Her real name was Kate O’Malley and not only did I plan on finding her, but I fully intended on learning every dirty secret she had and exploiting it for my own gain.

But I underestimated my prey.

I didn’t anticipate how her words would intoxicate me, or how the curves of her body would consume me.

I never meant to fall in love.

And now I had a choice to make.

Do I give up everything for the woman I set out to destroy, or walk away, making me the biggest fraud of all?

Add Fraud to GOODREADS.

What had started as a fun little game to bring this timid beauty out of her shell somehow turned into a wrestling match.

And I was the one about to lose.

Katelyn O’Malley was nothing like I’d imagined.

What had I imagined?

I wasn’t sure exactly.

I’d diligently done my homework— reading Scandal not once, but twice— before I’d hopped on a plane to Oregon. I’d thought the novel would give me insight to this perplexing woman I was about to meet.

In Photos: Coffee, Waffles, Cakes and Cheers to EXO’s 5th Anniversary

Screencap from EXO’s VLIVE celebrating their 5th anniversary.

The back story. Last February 24th, I traveled all the way from Albay just to attend the Manila leg of EXO’s The EXO’rDIUM concert tour. This isn’t an unfamiliar situation for me since traveling alone in a bus is a regular occurrence whenever I have to head to Manila. But this entire trip was truly special in most ways.

I was already comfortably seated on my designated bus seat when three ladies approached my section, one of them ended up as my seatmate and the other two were seated behind us. Upon seeing them and the small bags that they were carrying, the first thought that popped into my mind was “It’s not crazy if I think that they would be attending the EXO’rDIUM, right?”. I felt that there’s a huge chance that they could be EXO-Ls like me. Even told my friend who called me to go out of the bus about this but we just laughed it off because crazy eh.

I tried to get it off of my mind and concentrated more on my Twitter to field the latest happenings on the web. News about EXO leaving Korea was out and I was freaking out on the inside. How to deal? How to be calm? 어떻게? Trip went on smoothly. But then when I swerved my head towards my seatmate, I saw her checking out Ms. Happee Sy’s Twitter account…and that’s when I confirmed my hunch.

Thinking that we randomly chose our seats in the bus, ended up being seatmates and the fact that most probably all four of us are EXO-Ls who are attending the concert, I know I have to talk to them. I threw my shyness away and braved myself to start up a conversation. It was awkward but that’s how first time talking to people you don’t know goes. But compared to others, it was kind of easier for us to converse since we have a common ground: EXO.

Book Review: Thicker Than Water by Kelly Fiore

Author: Kelly Fiore (Website | Twitter)
Publication Date: January 5, 2016
Publisher: Harper Teen

Thicker Than WaterSYNOPSIS

Cecelia Price killed her brother. At least, that’s what the police and the district attorney are saying. And although Cecelia is now locked up and forced into treatment, she knows the real story is much more complicated.

Cyrus wasn’t always the drug-addled monster he’d become. He was a successful athlete, but when an injury forced him off the soccer field and onto pain medication, his life became a blur of anger, addiction, and violence. All CeCe could do was stand by and watch, until she realized one effective way to take away her brother’s drugs while earning the money she needed for college: selling the pills.

Soon, CeCe becomes part drug dealer, part honor student. But even when all she wants is to make things right, she learns that sometimes the best intentions lead to the worst possible outcome.

Thicker than Water is an unforgettable dark, harrowing look into the disturbing truth of drug addiction and the desperate love of a sister watching her brother deteriorate before her eyes.

Family tragedy, drug addiction and the mention of Ellen Hopkins’ name are three things that I don’t want to go along together in a book for the sole reason of me knowing that it would break my poor heart into pieces. But hey on the flipside, those are actually the three things that captured my attention and encouraged me to read it. It made me curious if Kelly Fiore will also make my mind spin and cause conflict inside of me, like what Hopkins did to me back when I read Identical.

Well, Fiore did.

For me, Thicker Than Water was a tough read. The book was written through Cecelia Price’s (suspect for her brother’s death) point of view and alternates from the past and present. The situations that Cecelia’s family went through were events that us, real living people experience too. Like someone in the family getting injured, hitting rock bottom, being placed in circumstances where you need to heavily weigh in the decisions that you make in life and ending up doing some sacrifices for our family. Easy right, we all can relate to that. But then enters the drug addiction element of the story which takes it to another level. A level wherein we have an idea of its existence but I think most of us don’t have an experience witnessing someone who has it. Through the numbered pages of this book Fiore made me experience and witness not only one person but an entire family crumble to pieces because of drug addiction. Fiore’s writing gripped my heart and drew me in. She didn’t need those poetic and big words to present us her story; she only needed to slap her readers with what the truth is and let the rawness of everything flow into her writing.

“Regret forces us to relive the moments we hate the most – the moments that drove us into spiralling downfalls, the moments where we stopped living and started surviving.”

I’m such a trash for the Royals.

Captured your attention by my opening line? Then, that’s good because I badly need it for you to hear me out about Paper Princess and Broken Prince by Erin Watt. If you haven’t read Paper Princess, the first book, then you better go look for a copy of it or if you need a lot more of convincing – stay put because I’ll be opening up more reasons why you need to purchase books 1 & 2.

Honestly, I never expected to enjoy and love this series as much as I do now. When I read the synopsis for Paper Princess back in late March, my initial thought was “O-kay, this could turn out to be just a typical love-hate relationship kind of story and this could be one of my guilty pleasures”. Sure, there was the love-hate relationship element to the story but I was not prepared as to how addictive Paper Princess and the Royals are. Hook, line and sinker. You got me there, Erin Watt.

Once I got started reading it, I could not just put it down. I could not get enough of the drama, tension and the feels each of the characters are bringing in to the table.

“This will never be my home. I don’t belong in splendour, I belong in squalor. That’s what I know. It’s what I’m comfortable with, because squalor doesn’t lie to you. It’s not wrapped in a pretty package.”

I completely axed my TBR list and now only read whatever the book that I’m in the mood for. But When it’s Real is one of those few books that I’m highly anticipating to be released this year and would really prioritize in reading. First and foremost, because it is written by Erin Watt and I only have good words to say about this author. I love the first and second book of her The Royals series. Still have to get my hands on the last one and get hooked up with how it fared for Ella and The Royals. But I thoroughly enjoyed those books; from the well-developed characters to the highs and lows that took place.

When it’s Real’s premise sound thrilling, what with the fake girlfriend, bad boy x good girl, famous x commoner tropes in place. It already screams – DRAMA. But with Watt as the author, oh I’m quite sure readers will be guaranteed to witness yet another story with the juiciest and most fulfilling drama from her. I can’t wait to read it and get acquainted with Vaughn Bennett and the new bad boy in book community – Oakley Ford.
