Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn (GOODREADS)

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for… well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret… and fears she doesn’t know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of everyone’s preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph.

But when Colin returns to London from a trip aboard, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same, especially Penelope Featherington, the girl haunting his dreams!

And when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide… is she his biggest threat, or his promise of a happy ending?

Thoughts: I’m currently rereading Romancing Mister Bridgerton, my all-time favorite book from the Bridgerton series of Julia Quinn. She’s my go-to author when it comes to historical romance and have been that way since I was a high-school student. To date, I couldn’t remember the times I’ve reread this book (and her other books) and I could do it over and over again. There’s something about Penelope and Colin’s story that always gets me and my emotions.

Waiting On Wednesday {3}: Without Merit by Colleen Hoover

“Waiting on Wednesday” is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that I or us, readers are eagerly anticipating.

Here’s my pick for this week …

Author: Colleen Hoover (Website | Twitter)
Publication Date: October 3, 2017

“Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness.”

The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit.

Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix.

Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves.

Poignant and powerful, Without Merit explores the layers of lies that tie a family together and the power of love and truth.

It has been what – almost a year now since Colleen Hoover released a novel, right? So my anticipation for Without Merit is really high. Without Merit has a very interesting plot that I can’t wait to unravel. I’ve detected that a forbidden element is surrounding Merit and the male character. “Until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable”. Why is he unavailable? But what I’m curious the most is about her family and their issues. How would Merit “shatter the happy family illusion”? How is her family’s issues tied to the boy that she loves? I can feel that this book will have complex characters and plot. I’m excited!

I’m an avid reader of Kasie West and I have been anticipating for her next release as soon as I finished reading By Your Side back in February! Kasie West just knows how to bring her A-game when it comes to realistic characters and situations, fluffy and utterly sweet romances. She also writes funny yet very witty (gold) dialogues/banters that I always anticipate for.

I have high hopes that Lucky in Love will be a success just like her previous releases! x

I completely axed my TBR list and now only read whatever the book that I’m in the mood for. But When it’s Real is one of those few books that I’m highly anticipating to be released this year and would really prioritize in reading. First and foremost, because it is written by Erin Watt and I only have good words to say about this author. I love the first and second book of her The Royals series. Still have to get my hands on the last one and get hooked up with how it fared for Ella and The Royals. But I thoroughly enjoyed those books; from the well-developed characters to the highs and lows that took place.

When it’s Real’s premise sound thrilling, what with the fake girlfriend, bad boy x good girl, famous x commoner tropes in place. It already screams – DRAMA. But with Watt as the author, oh I’m quite sure readers will be guaranteed to witness yet another story with the juiciest and most fulfilling drama from her. I can’t wait to read it and get acquainted with Vaughn Bennett and the new bad boy in book community – Oakley Ford.
