Feature: YouTube Channels That I Frequently Visit

Feature

How often do you use your YouTube account? What are the videos that you look for and watch whenever you are on that app? On today’s blog post, I’ll be sharing some of the YouTube channels that I frequently visit and truly enjoy their respective video contents.

In the past, I only use YouTube to check up on the latest music videos, movie trailers, interviews and basically the official releases from various media outlets. It was just recently that I found myself getting hooked with all things YouTube, being fascinated with some YouTubers and their contents. It all started when I saw a lipstick collection video on my home page and because it got me curious, I clicked on it. The next thing I know YouTube kept on suggesting videos from different YouTubers (international and local) and me, watching and watching and watching videos endlessly.

I’m not into beauty and makeup but two out of six YouTube channels that I listed below are of that content. Oh the irony. It’s just that I’m fascinated and I enjoy watching these vloggers testing out and putting on different products. Their videos are done creatively and definitely informative. The other four are of random channels about nails, culture, song covers and ChanBaek compilation videos. If you have questions and looking for a particular account that would suit your wants and favorites (like BookTubers), I’d gladly help you out and suggest some. Just comment down below! 😊

Shall we get started with my list?

1. Shaaanxo by the beauty vlogger, Shannon, from New Zealand. It was her lipstick collection video that popped into my home page and started it all. This particular video runs to almost 30 minutes and I found myself finishing the entire thing. How can someone own such an amount lipsticks? Her collection left me in awe because of the number of lipsticks that she owns, the wide-range of brands that it includes and just seeing stacks and stacks of it. At first, I thought that she’s kind of “maarte” (like someone who can be too nitpicky). But she proved me wrong. Shannon does have a great personality, as seen in her videos. She’s so girly and I love it when she suddenly does some funny reactions and facial expressions. She’s so comfortable in front of the camera and sometimes it feels like she doesn’t even care that her funny yet weird expressions are captured and can be seen by millions of her subscribers.

Her YouTube channel is filled with lipstick swatches (most of the times she makes sure that she have the complete collection before she films this particular vlog feature), her first impressions on beauty products, reviews, tutorials, hauls and she also did some beauty tags & Q&A. Visit Shaaanxo’s YouTube channel!

Other International Beauty Channels that I visit, too: Tina Yong (I love her “Tina Tries It” feature), Tati, Safiya Nygaard, The Beauty Breakdown and Meejmuse.

2. Chinkytita by Chinky from Cebu Philippines. I believe she’s just a starting YouTuber but her community is growing at a steady pace. I’m fond of using lip tints and when I searched for some swatches on YouTube, her account appeared. I went through her lip tint videos and I found myself enjoying everything that she puts out. She is bubbly,  funny (makes fun of herself whenever she does something wrong) and always up for a challenge. Add in her boyfriend who’s also a jokester, definitely expect some craziness. Her contents are always light & fun which makes her videos highly addictive to watch. A great daily dose of entertainment.

Her videos mostly consists of lip tint reviews, hauls here and there (even online and Divisoria), makeup product reviews and random travel & life vlogs. With being just a budding YouTuber, I love how she focused on featuring local and affordable makeup products. She knows how maximize the products that are easily available within her reach and in turn setting the general public as her viewers. I know she’s slowly getting her name out there, receiving some PR packages and I can’t wait for more things to come her way. Visit Chinkytita’s YouTube Channel!

Other Local Beauty Channels that I visit: Anna Cay, Anne Clutz and ThatsBella.

I didn’t saw it coming. It just happened. One moment, I was chillin’ and the next thing I know…I slipped.

To be honest, before Don’t Wanna Cry was released I was just a casual listener of Seventeen and do so to keep myself updated. I saw their comeback teasers floating around on my timeline but I didn’t gave it much attention since I still have no idea with their members and the could be existing theories connected with their comeback. But I just have it in my mind that I’m going to anticipate for their MV, this time around, and see if their song is going to stick with me.

When they released the highlight medley for their mini album, I made sure to listen to it so that I have an idea on what to expect from them. Quick run through the album, I was impressed by all the snippets and it made me anticipate for it even more. But them releasing their Don’t Wanna Cry Special Spot was the game changer. For real. Just a few seconds of hearing some of their members sing and I loved it already! (Wouldn’t you know it but that part from the special spot is one of my favorite parts of the song?) My instinct told me that it’s going to be a good comeback for their group.

I was right and I’m glad that I witnessed everything during their Don’t Wanna Cry promotion period. From their comeback performances to their wins, I’m glad that I cheered them on.

The day of their comeback and Don’t Wanna Cry M/V release (May 22, 2017) marked the date of me slipping into their fandom. Into the Carat life. How can I not end up stanning them? I love Don’t Wanna Cry during my first listen. (I even blogged about it here and said all kinds of praises for it. Because it deserves to be praised.) I love the M/V. I love the choreography and how synchronized they are when they move. Furthermore, how can I not stan them? When they write their own lyrics, produce their music, make choreography for it and more. Seventeen has so much to offer and I’ll gladly give them my love and support.

The next thing I know, I was watching their variety shows, Youtube videos and listening to their songs repetitively. (Shoutout to Kim (@anoganap) for supplying me with links and educating me about Seventeen). Tip: Watching variety shows is always a good way to get acquainted with the members of the group you like. Through that you’ll be able to match them up with their names, faces, voices and bonus with their personalities. I decided to do a marathon for One Fine Day 13 Castaway Boys and One Fine Day in Japan. I fell in love with them even more.

What am I doing to myself? I seem to have an affinity towards groups with lots of members. EXO (9), NCT (limitless??) and now Seventeen (13). Oh how I love giving myself a bit of headache. Did I struggle getting to know them? Actually, I expected that I would have a hard time pinning who’s who but I easily get a hang of them. I enjoyed the process of learning about them individually, as a unit, as a group and as ships. Yes, I was educated (Hi, Kim!) early on about the ships that exist in the group. Meanie… 😆

Now that my Carat story is out of the way. It’s now time to talk and show you the first Seventeen album that I bought.

How can I resist such beauty? Just look at that gorgeous cover and you’ll know you won’t be able to.

I’m the kind of person who’s big on meanings and memories. So it was truly a must for me to buy a copy of their 4th mini album. It comes in three different versions – Alone (01), Al1 (03) and All (13). How did I choose which version to buy first?

Fresh Release: As If It’s Your Last by BlackPink

AIIYL

Seven months since Square Two, BlackPink makes a comeback with a track titled ‘As If It’s Your Last’.

As If It’s Your Last is definitely different from their previous releases. It’s more of an upbeat song that gives you the feel of making you want to jump and dance along with it. Also infused with synths in places. It’s a total bop!

The music video is a splash of bold colors and captured three sides of BlackPink: their sophisticated, school-girl type and fun side. The play of colors and how they were styled perfectly fit the sense of the lyrics since it revolves around someone’s excitement and bold take on love. You can check the English translation here. (Though, I just have to say that this song and MV gave me a 2NE1 vibe…)

Fresh Release: Cherry Bomb by NCT

CB

Cherry Bomb comeback marks the first one that I’m on board with all the NCTzen (our just announced fandom name)! To say that I’ve been highly anticipating for their M/V and mini album to drop is totally an understatement.

When SM entertainment started releasing comeback teasers (first wave was of Doyoung, WinWin and Taeyong), the impression that it left me were NCT Dream-ish and Pop. It got me thinking, would they be taking on a NCT Dream kind of concept with a 127 twist? Are they going to release poppin’ songs because of how bold the colors used for the teasers? The video teasers weren’t that big of a help at all since it was mostly a montage of the M/V. Well, if you consider having Na Na Na NaNa stuck in your head and yes it worked. But still I’m at wits end because I couldn’t really grasp what the song will sound like and its overall vibe.

… And just a few hours ago, I got my answers for those thoughts and questions.

Seventeen Compilation: Crazy in Love & Don’t Wanna Cry Stages

It’s been over a week now since Seventeen dropped their 4th mini album and the M/V for their comeback track, Don’t Wanna Cry, and here I am still so obsessed with it. Whenever I space out, the lyrics to that song just pops up in my mind and I end up mentally singing it. I don’t know how I can move on from this. Visually appealing music video, the rawness and remnants of sadness in their vocals and clever upbeat tone, what’s up? Don’t Wanna Cry is just so catchy and obviously have a lasting effect. To all the artists who are planning to make a comeback this year, for me this is definitely the one to beat.

Seventeen is currently promoting Don’t Wanna Cry along side another track, Crazy in Love, in various music shows and has been gracing us with powerful performances. Despite the insane choreography, numerous formation changes and the level of synchronization that it requires their vocals remain to be so stable. You can even check some MR Removed videos on Youtube. I’m beyond amazed with them. They just tick off a lot of boxes as to why they’re so stan worthy. I decided to make a compilation post so that you can join me in checking them out and their comeback stages. At this point, I’m hoping that they get several wins in music shows for Don’t Wanna Cry because they (and that song) deserves it. Seventeen deserves more recognition. Okay, I’ll leave you now. Just click on the pictures below and you’ll be directed to its corresponding Youtube videos.

Fresh Release: Don’t Wanna Cry by Seventeen

IMG_20170525_023550

On May 22nd, Seventeen dropped the latest single, Don’t Wanna Cry, from their 4th mini album titled ‘Al1’. I highly anticipated for this. I don’t know why and where the feeling came from but I really felt that this song (and basically the album as a whole) will be good.

Yet Seventeen exceeded my expectations.

If you haven’t heard and seen the M/V for Don’t Wanna Cry, do yourselves a favor and watch it HERE. I guarantee you that your eyes and ears will be blessed by the art they have created. Sometimes it takes me two or three times to listen to a certain song before I can decide if it’s a great one or just okay. With Don’t Wanna Cry, I became hooked with it the moment I heard it’s opening line and fell even more as the song continued to play. I don’t even know who’s who were singing (only knew a few members from the group) but I love it. It has been days now since it was released and I still can’t stop listening to it. Don’t Wanna Cry just hooks you in and basically causes for you to have a last song syndrome. It is addicting. Very.

Maybe the first few times you listen and watch the M/V, you’ll just be in awe with them. Like who wouldn’t? The MV and their choreography are aesthetically pleasing and suited the song perfectly. But as I repeatedly listened to it, I heard and felt the sadness injected in the song. Even though their track was an EDM (with a basic-like beat), Seventeen managed to let the message of the song transcend through the vulnerability of their voices, its progression and the choreography. Notice even the littlest of their movements because it tells a narrative.

Once the English translation was out, I read the lyrics and it made my heart ache more.

With Wonwoo and Mingyu’s 울고 싶지 않아 (ulgo shipji ana), I know I’m going to stay and continue listening to the song. But when that choreography in the GIF above was shown, I knew that I made a great decision. Seventeen’s synchronization is definitely something and their choreography catered to it by highlighting it several times. The choreography showed creativity and complexity and they were able to execute it flawlessly. It truly showcased that they move together as one team. I legit had goosebumps whenever group shots of them dancing were shown in the M/V. It’s so good.

On My Radar: Neo Culture Technology (NCT)

TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet and now with Neo Culture Technology aka NCT. Huh, SM fully knows how to hook me and claw its way in to my ears – and heart.

I’ve been gone from the Korean pop music scene for several years and it was just last year when I started getting reacquainted with it. Big changes and tons of new groups welcomed me back. Like, BlackPink. Weirdly enough my curiosity and excitement spiked when YG Entertainment started dropping teasers for their debut. So when their D-Day came, I found myself streaming the debut showcase, watching the two M/Vs that they released and instantly became a fan. The power and edge that they are channeling through their music and image are definitely not the common ones we get from girl groups. In which makes them stand out more. I told myself that I would just stick with them and nothing more.

But EXO, who has been trying to catch my attention for the most part of 2016, strikes once again.

EXO members Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin (now EXO-CBX) participated in the original soundtrack of Scarlet Heart: Ryeo with the song “For You” which immediately made me fall for their voices. ChenBaekXi’s voices and Chanyeol (whom I encountered through his Chinese movie, So I Married an Anti-Fan) became the nth straw.

I caved in.

EXO stood out from the all the boy groups, hauled my lazy behind and roused my dormant heart. For a month or two, I poured my attention into everything EXO. I learned about the ins and outs concerning them and their fandom. Almost five years to catch up? I breezed through it because I had fun getting to know about their members, the glorious (and miserable) events that transpired, the inside jokes and basically everything that I must know. At first, I was hesitant if I’m going to do the entire fandom thing because ain’t I too old for that? But with them it was truly impossible not to. There are a lot of things happening to EXO and I felt the ultimate need to communicate with my fellow EXO-LS. They’re the ones who’ll be able to understand me and what I’m feeling. Read some of the blog posts that I’ve written about EXO here.

With being exposed to Korean music daily, I little by little started opening up myself for more, encountered other groups, started listening to them and appreciating their craft. Just like AKMU, Seventeen, GOT7, K.A.R.D and more. Even solo artists.

IMG_20170430_122919

I’m knowledgeable of NCT’s existence. They’ve been on my radar since I’ve attached myself to EXO and with how today’s fandom power work, you cannot just miss NCT. They performed during the year-end award shows and won some rookie awards too. In which I’ve seen some cute interactions that they had with EXO. I adore their sunbae-hoobae relationship because I can feel the love and respect that they have for each other. The only reason why I had a hard time convincing myself to 100% check NCT out is because I’m thoroughly overwhelmed by them. With the SM Rookies thing, their sub-units and the unknown definite number of members – I feel like I won’t be able to take everything in.
