Bookish Thoughts | The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare

If Cassandra Clare plans to add and add and add more books to The Shadowhunter Chronicles, she certainly won’t be getting a complain out of me. I would gobble those books up any day for I could live and bask in the glorious Shadowhunter world forever.

What I love about Cassie the most is the fact that she keeps on stepping up and improving her writing. I thought The Infernal Devices was her being at her peak already, probably at that time, but The Dark Artifices (TDA) is on a whole new other level. It’s mature. It’s intense. It’s darker and dabbles on important issues and topics. Issues that are not just applicable for the Shadowhunters but also for our society. Clare used her voice as writer and made her stand known through TDA.

I have so many thoughts about The Dark Artifices but I’ll just do quick bullets.

💛 The Clave. The Council. The Inquisitor. The Consul. Government.

In TDA, we dug through the inner workings of the Shadowhunter government and I’m not even surprised to find how dirty and poisonous it is at the center. It’s not far from what we have in our country these past few years, actually. Reading all about the political aspect of this series is scary yet empowering. Scary because there are issues with their government that run parallel with our own government. Like the deceitful tactics and manipulations. But empowering because it fuels me even more to stand up for what is right.

My eyes are open and I won’t let things pass.

“The Clave was nearly taken over by extremists who would have driven us into isolation and self-destruction. And everyone who stood back and allowed this to happen – through inattention, through apathy and overconfidence – Well. We are all guilty. And therefore we will all vote, as a reminder that every voice counts, and when you choose not to use your voice, you are letting yourself be silenced.” – Jia Penhallow.
